dsPIC™ Development
Tools and Libraries
Microchip
dsPIC30F tools operate seamlessly within the MPLAB® IDE
(Integrated Development Environment). The powerful
yet easy-to-use MPLAB IDE has all of the enhanced
edit/build/debug features you would expect from a
modern graphical debug environment. MPLAB IDE integrates
not only software, but all of Microchip's hardware
tools and many third party tools. The key features
of MPLAB IDE are:
Designed
for Windows® XP, 2000, NT, and 98
- Project build
and management
- Flexible watch windows
- Mouse over variable inspection
- Full feature code
editor with colour context
- Source level debug in Assembly
and C
- Searchable trace buffers with complex capture
conditions
- MPLAB ASM30 and LINK30 assembler/linker
- MPLAB SIM
high speed simulator for both CPU and peripheral
functions
- dsPIC30F Visual Device Initializer
To accompany this development tool. Microchip has
made available
a free,
integrated toolset for the development of embedded
applications employing Microchip's PIC12/16/17/18 and
dsPIC™ microcontrollers.
MPLAB IDE runs as a 32-bit application on MS Windows,
is easy to use and includes a host of free software
components for fast application development and super-charged
debugging. MPLAB IDE also serves as a single, unified
graphical user interface for additional Microchip and
Third Party software and hardware development tools.
Moving between tools is a snap, and upgrading from
the free simulator to MPLAB ICD 2 or the MPLAB ICE
emulator is done in a flash because MPLAB IDE has the
same basic user interface for all tools. Download

The essential software and hardware development
tools. MPLAB IDE is provided free and contains the
MPLAB ASM30 assembler and the MPLAB SIM software simulator
useful for writing and testing dsPIC30F code. Also
included with MPLAB IDE software is the dsPIC30F Visual
Device Initializer (VDI). Initializing all the I/O
pins and peripherals on a dsPIC® device can be
a challenging task. VDI allows you to configure the
device graphically, then with a mouse click generate
code in assembly or C.
